QUESTIONS ABOUT THE BOYS ACADEMY?
Contact Director Mauro Nobre, 785-760-2775, mauro@sportingkv.com

DESCRIPTION: The Boys Academy is an intermediate program focused on fundamental technical skills and their tactical application. Priority will be given to teaching game intelligence, or "soccer IQ". The curriculum is age-appropriate and follows US Youth Soccer guidelines. Instruction is provided by qualified coaches under the guidance of the Boys Academy director. Players aged 5 through 15 are eligible (15 year olds must be evaluated to obtain permission to play). This league promotes local competitive play among teams within SKV, and mostl games are played at the Clinton Lake Youth Sports Complex. Some games may be played in Topeka or Manhattan when we play our member teams from that city. There are two 8 game seasons: fall and spring. Fall teams remain together for the spring season, although the fees for each season are paid separately. Players are rostered from August to May. Player fees do not include uniforms. Uniforms must be purchased from SKV (see details below). Divisions currently include U8, U10 (Division 1 and 2), U12, U14 (Junior Academy - see separate page) and High School Academy (see separate page).  Players practice twice each week. Games are played on Saturday and occasionally on a Sunday or weeknight. Games are generally played at the Clinton Lake Youth Sports Complex - or CLYSC (formerly YSI). Some games may be played in Topeka or Manhattan (home and away format) when we play our member teams from those locations.

Academy Uniforms

BOYS & GIRLS ACADEMY (including JUNIOR ACADEMY) uniforms are the same as they were for the 2016-2017 (Academy uniforms change every two years due to our Adidas contract and the limited lifespan and availability of uniform styles). ALL brand new ACADEMY PLAYERS IN LAWRENCE, MANHATTAN AND TOPEKA & SALINA will need to purchase new uniforms to play in the fall 2017 season. If you played in the Academy league last year, and your uniform still fits, then you do not need to purchase a new one.

BOYS ACADEMY SELECT TOURNAMENT TEAMS
  • Each season we form an “all star” team in each age group (U8, U9, U10, U11, U12, U13 and U14) comprised of the best available players, and play up to three Premier tournaments. (No team is formed for an age group if not enough players are available for a particular tournament).
  • This gives our players additional opportunities to develop and to have fun. It gives them a taste of play at the next level, and helps prepare them for future challenges.
  • The teams are coached by our senior Boys Academy and Premier program staff led by coach Mauro Nobre.
  • Check the calendar on the top of this page for practice and tournament dates.
  • Eligibility: Participation is by invitation. We will send out invitations over email for these tournament teams. If you are interested please contact me -Mauro@sportingkv.com
  • BOYS ACADEMY SELECT POOL: Participation in the Boys Academy Select program is by invitation. To accept the invitation you must reply to the email invitation, and provide us a notarized medical release form (in addition to that provided to your team coach). You will be eligible to attend all the Boys Academy Select practices. You may be invited to one or more of the three tournaments that we will do each season. We try to offer opportunities to as many players as possible. You will have up to 12 extra training sessions with the competitive coaching staff even if you don’t do any tournaments.
  • A note on eligibility: Participation is by invitation, at the discretion of the coaches. You may be invited to participate, but if not enough players are available we may not be able to form a team for that particular event. In case we have several candidates available for limited team positions the coaches will have complete discretion over who is awarded those limited spots. Those decisions depend on many factors, including player characteristics, what positions the team requires, etc. We usually attend two tournaments each season. If a team roster fills up and you are not selected we will make every effort to include you in the next events. Our purpose is to include as many players as possible in as many events as possible. Keep a long term perspective with regard to your participation and development!
  • Boys Academy Select practices are generally held on Fridays, 5:00 to 8:00, but other arrangements may be required and will be announced.
  • Tournament: We will participate in the Kaw Valley Cup, hosted by SKV in Lawrence in September, the April Fool's Futbol Festival tournament hosted by SKV in April in Lawrence, and the Kansas City Invitational, held in Overland Park in May.
  • If you are selected to participate there will be a $85 per tournament fee.
